When painters paint, they obviously have to have something on their mind to help them get a creative image to paint. When the reader, or viewer looks at these images that the painter paints, you can tell what they were either feelings or what they were trying to create when they paint. If a painter is in a sad mood… you will see shades of blue and purple or even black. Depression can also be a sign of these colors in a painting. If a painter is in a happy mood, yellows and oranges are vividly placed on the canvas. The way the painter creates a mood is by feelings that the painter has. If the painter has never been introduced to sadness.. there is no way they can paint a sad picture that expresses sadness to the viewer. What makes a painting so powerful, is the way it was painted on the canvas, and the colors or emotions that a viewer gets out of it. If a painter paints a person into the painting..such as the painting in “the fall of the house of usher,” with the man holding his heart, and he is dressed in black.. this symbolizes to the viewer that this man is grieving for some reason, because he has a sadness to his face.
